Jim Fortune is my real name. It is not a stage, radio or made up name that I use just for the Internet world. I was born on the East Coast and have lived in Colorado for the past 39 years. I am a Viet Nam era vet, and unlike some Viet Nam era vets (like President George Bush) I actually went to Viet Nam. I have two college degrees – one in Marketing and the other in Computer Information Systems. So I am a marketing guy who does computer programming. It is a stange match that I will tell you about sometime.
I have been involved, in some way or the other, in the Internet since 1992. I formed a Colorado corporation back in 1992 called Spectrum Online Systems, Inc. This company was the beginning of a follow on company I also incorporated called Rocky Mountain Internet, Inc. (RMI). I helped bootstrap RMI and did some of their early capital formation. Two years later, I incorporated Colorado Network Engineering (CONEN). While initially starting as a networking company for Netware, UNIX and other operating systems, it later bacame an Internet Service Provider (ISP) (http://www.conen.net) and was later acquired by ViaWest, a larger ISP, of Denver CO.
In 1994, concurrent with starting up CONEN, I started a company called North American Internet, Limited (NAIL), another ISP. I bootstrapped this company starting with zero captial into a firm having monthly revenue of mid five figures (to the left of the decimal point). I sold this company (http://www.nail.net) in 2003.
I am not an expert. I know what works and what doesn’t. I know how to start little companies and grow them into larger companies. I also can help little people reach their dreams by telling them what works and what doesn’t. I will add to this biography as time goes on, but this short story will let you know what my background is and why I feel I can help you down the road to Internet success.
